Petition opposing Chapter 27
24th January 2006
Lindsay Lohan and Jared Leto are set to star in an independent movie about Mark Chapman, his assassination of former Beatle John Lennon and the days leaading up to the murder.
Chapter 27 (titled after the missing chapter of the book Catcher in the Rye which Chapman asked John Lennon to sign and was carrying with him at the time of the murder), is currently being filmed in New York. Yoko Ono has been fighting to stop producers from filming outside of the Dakota building, where she still lives. Her publicist said "Yoko immediately checked if the Dakota building had the right to refuse them filming the façade, and found out that legally, all they had to do was to get the permission of the city." However her bid was unsuccessful as the Canadian film company, Peace Arch, had already been granted the necessary permits to film there.
The film is due for release in 2007 -- also the time when Chapman, who was jailed for life, will be up for parole for the fourth time.
An online petition has been set up by Jennifer Lindner opposing the release of the movie and Urban Spaceman would like to encourage its readers to lend their support -- turning such an atrocity into "entertainment" seems to be the ultimate in bad taste and insensitivity. Please visit the Opposing "Chapter 27" campaingn and add your voice to the hundreds who have already done so.
