MPs band, MP4, release Can't Buy Me Love
26th July 2005
MP4 is a band made up by... yes, four MPs -- Two Labour; Ian Cawsey on bass and lead vocals and Kevin Brennan on guitar and vocals; Conservative Greg Knight on drums and SNP's Pete Wishart (formerly of Runrig) on keyboards.
Their version of The Beatles' Can't Buy Me Love is one minute and 59 seconds of blistering rock'n'roll recorded as live at Whitfield Street Studios -- birthplace of everything from the Clash's first album to the Spice Girls' Spice Up Your Life -- and was produced by legendary producer Robin Millar. It has been available for download through EMI Music since 13th July and all proceeds from the download are to be donated to Save The Children.
Singer Ian Cawsey said: "We are very excited at the launch of our first single and to be supporting the development of legal downloading.
"At a time when many musicians have become politicians this is the backlash. Politicians masquerading as musicians; you have been warned!"
Can't Buy Me Love is one of four tracks on the EP, House Music. It also includes a Kevin Brennan original, Foolish Game, and versions of Midnight Hour and My Old Friend The Blues.
