The Bootleg Beatles, Kenwood Lakeside

20th August 2005

A wonderful evening spent in the summer air by the lakeside Kenwood House. The day involved driving in London -- something I've never done before and I somehow didn't appreciate that where I was going today actually was in London -- I'd assumed it was further North. The experience wasn't as bad as I had expected (once I managed to find Hampstead, which was a challenge in itself owing to a complete lack of road signs pointing to anywhere useful). Giving friends a lift home was fun -- we drove past lots of places I know but had never been able to link up in my mind, being a perpetual tube traveller whenever London is concerned -- Hyde Park Corner, Marble Arch, Kensington, Harrods, Hammersmith, Chiswick, out over Kew bridge.

The gig was great (I love the outside ones) but it was odd to be on the front row but still so far away from the band, across the water. The guys seemed to find it strange to be so far away from the audience too; they said they felt lonely up there. The set ended with a big firework finale which looked super reflected in the water.
